I never thought that vacuum storage bags would really be practical, effected, or even useful. I always thought it was just another gimmick until I decided to move overseas for eight and a half months! A time period that is short enough to almost be considered a vacation but long enough for someone to feel moved. I knew I did not want to have to ship anything over so I decided, like any good traveller, to attempt to pack everything I might need, want, and own into the two allowed suitcases that I planned to check through the flight.
After trying for several hours to roll, flatten, stuff, cram, and pack the belongings I knew I could not live without into my two suitcases I finally realized no amount of stuffing was going to make all the things I needed to fit. That is when I remembered reading about vacuum sealed bags and I thought “what the heck, better try them, I have no other options”. I was worried that I would need to buy an expensive high tech device to suck the air out but to my surprise any household vacuum would do the trick. I was also concerned that the bags would be heavy and weigh down my suitcases but they were not! Which was a huge relief!
I headed back home to my overspilling suitcases and began to fill one of the bags with a few sweaters and shirts. As I began to vacuum seal the bag I realized I had clearly put too few clothes in there! Thankfully they are reusable! So I unsealed it added a few more sweaters and vacuum sealed it up again. I was amazed how tight and small the space saver bags became! By the time I had finished with my two suitcases I realized I had actually almost two thirds more space left in my bags! I could not believe it! I then realized I now had space to fit a few things I thought I would not be able to fit and I also realized I had made space for some souvenirs and items I might buy and want to bring back from my travels (which I did!)
Not only did I make over 60% more space I also noticed that these vacuum storage bags are air tight, moisture AND water proof! After returning from my travels I immediately rushed out to get more vacuum sealed bags to start organizing the rest of my house!
